What is Estate Planning?

Estate Planning applies to everyone

You don't have to own Downton Abbey in order to have an estate! Your estate comprises whatever you own - your assets - even if you don't think it amounts to much.

Your estate could include:

  • property
  • vehicles
  • money in the bank
  • investments, stocks and shares
  • Premium Bonds
  • assets owned overseas
  • all your possessions

Who is to say whether your estate will be worth more at the time of your death than, less than or the same as it is worth at the time you make your Will? You may, for example, inherit from somebody else's estate. It is important to think through all the 'what ifs'. Your Will should make allowance for the possibility of your estate increasing or decreasing in size between making your Will and your death.

If something significant changes, it may be necessary for you to update your Will. We recommend that you review it periodically to check that it still covers your wishes.
