A languages teacher for 15 years both in England and Australia, I was seeking a new career challenge and jumped at the chance to be trained and mentored in Will writing by David Cochrane, author of ‘The Willwriter’s Handbook’.
Proud to represent the beautiful West Country and to be a sole trader based in Somerset’s county town, I first set up Taunton Wills, preparing Wills, Trusts and Lasting Powers of Attorney to an ever-growing client base.
With clients across Bristol, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset, it made sense to change my business name in 2022 to West Country Wills.
I've carried through from Taunton Wills to West Country Wills an ethos, taken from David Cochrane’s training, of asking a fair fee from the client that reflects my training, expertise and experience in drafting such vital documents.
I also passed examinations with and became a member of the Society of Will Writers (for whom I am now Secretary of the South-West regional group).
My USP is bringing my teaching background to the fore by listening to my clients’ individual requirements and writing the estate planning documents that fit their particular needs. David remains on hand in the event that any client’s particular situation requires his input and guidance, whilst David still uses my keen eye for detail in proof-reading documents (once an exam marker, always an exam marker!).
As a client of West Country Wills you can rely on:
Season ticket holder at Exeter Chiefs, Taunton Titans and Somerset County Cricket Club, Richard has played cricket for Exeter University and for Wells Cricket Club and has been involved as player, committee member and umpire at his beloved Ottery St Mary Cricket Club in Devon for over 20 years.
Richard is a Trustee of a long-established charity with the objective of furthering education, training and research in the psychology of children with visual and/or other developmental difficulties. He has also co-authored a primary school education pack on the theme of Red Squirrel Conservation.
Fluent in several languages and having lived in France, Spain and Australia before returning to the West Country of England, Richard has visited 71 countries and has an MA (with distinction) in Travel and Nature Writing from Bath Spa University. He is seeking a publisher for his first book of travel adventures.
Nothing changes for existing clients of Taunton Wills. Your documents will still be stored securely and your details remain on file should you need to update at any stage.
As I have built up a client base throughout Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset as well as in Bristol and North Somerset, it made sense to change names to West Country Wills.
